Schooner Estates is owned and operated by lifelong residents of Lewiston/Auburn, John Orestis and his wife Barbra Crowley. John and Barbra have been involved in the health care and elder housing industry for over 30 years and are dedicated to maintaining the Schooner hallmark, “A Commitment to Excellence” in retirement community living.
Through their involvement in the elder housing industry, John and Barbra realized that there was a desire among independent older adults tired of mowing lawns, shoveling snow and tending to home maintenance, to find secure housing with comprehensive services to make life enjoyable. This was the impetus behind the founding of Schooner Estates in 1987, and John and Barbra have continued that legacy under their ownership with intimate involvement in daily operations.
As local people strongly committed to the Lewiston/Auburn area and to the philosophy that mature adults in Maine deserve the very best, John and Barbra have also markedly enhanced the quality of life for the community-at-large. Schooner’s innovative outreach programs encourage interaction between Schooner residents, USM/LA students from area colleges, senior college, theater, concerts and other local opportunities.
